A Look Back at a Year of Accomplishments And A Look Ahead to Endless Smiles
It has been a year since I first shared the story of my son Cyrus who was born visually impaired due to the genetic disease FEVR. I am a very private when it comes to my personal life and it took a lot for me to be able to tell his story in such a public manner. As apprehensive as I was, the outpour of love and support I received after that post proved that it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Now a year later, I am so excited to share with you all of the progress that we have made as a family and our company’s commitment to Boston Children’s Hospital.
Cyrus never ceases to amaze me. This past year, he started preschool and I can’t even tell you how nervous I was. Having an aide with him at all times did put my mind at ease. The interaction with the other children has done wonders bringing out his personality. He’s such a happy, sweet child and is talking up a storm. Once a week Cyrus has been enjoying horseback riding therapy. He is obsessed with the horses and has even graduated from a pony to a big horse! Swimming lessons have really helped the entire family since we get to participate as well. Cyrus absolutely loves his night swims with dad where he practices swimming underwater, holding his breath, and his tootsie rolls! My favorite time is when I listen to Cyrus playing with his drum set and piano. Let me tell you, my boy can sing! He gets such a kick out of hearing his voice on the microphone, LOL. He is accomplishing more than I could imagine every single day!
In honor of Cyrus and the thousands of other children that are visually impaired, our Giving Back Program donates 2% of VLB proceeds to the Dream Dare Deliver campaign of Boston Children’s Hospital. The proceeds specifically go towards the Ophthalmology Department, their research and treatment development program for FEVR.
For the month of June, as we celebrate National Child Vision Awareness Month, the VictoriaLand Beauty Giving Back Program will be increasing its donation to 10% of all proceeds.
Being surrounded by the many wonderful people helping my son has inspired me to keep looking for ways to improve the lives of those who are visual impaired. After a lot of research and with the help of an incredible team, VLB is going to take on a major initiative that we feel will make life easier for Cyrus and many more people like him. I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet, but I could not be any more excited about what’s coming towards the end of the 2019. I know. I know. It is not nice to tease. I promise it will be worth the wait.
While you are waiting, you can still make a difference today. Remember to treat your skin to any of our Skin Loving products this month and 10% of the proceeds will help the Boston Children’s Hospital Ophthalmology Department bring endless smiles to hundreds of beautiful faces.
