There are days when we all want to try something new with our makeup. Unique eyeliner trends are the perfect way to take your makeup look to the next level without looking too over the top. Inspired by some of the biggest runway eyeliner trends created by famous makeup artists, we are going to show you everything from simple winged liners to colorful and crazy ones.
Double Winged Eyeliner
The Eyes: It’s a unique yet still very classy look. The double winged liner will make your eye color pop, and it will optically make your eyes look larger. Start by applying eyelid primer and a matte cream peach shade over your entire lid. Blend it with a taupe shade, and start drawing the liner with a matte black kohl liner. Instead of your typical line, draw a thicker one on your upper lid and then your lower lash line to create the double-winged look. Apply false lashes to finish.
The Rest of the Look: A hint of blush and a velvet foundation mousse for a porcelain complexion will look amazing with this double winged liner.
Smudged Metallic Liner
The Eyes: Perfect for parties, this metallic, smudged liner look pairs perfectly with any evening dress! Start off the look with a grey shadow over the lid. Then choose a dark grey gel liner and apply a thick line on your lid without winging it out. Apply a hint of shimmery grey eyeshadow on top of the liner (instead of smudging, simply tap it with a flat, edged brush). Once the lid is done, use the same method on your lower lash line, but don’t forget to smudge out the liner a bit for a smokey effect. As a finishing touch, apply a metallic ice blue or pastel green shade to your inner corners–both on the lid and the lower lash line–to open your eyes more.
The Rest of the Look: Highlighter is the key in this look. Apply a cold-toned, cream highlighter down the bridge of your nose, on your cupid’s bow and on your cheekbones for a dewy effect.
The Bold Cat Eye
The Eyes: This super bold and daring cat eye looks stunning with lighter (green, blue or grey) eyes. Start off by applying a long-lasting eyelid primer with a dark or black primer. Once it dries, work your way in with black eye shadow. Tap it everywhere with a flat brush, and once it sets, go over with a black liner. Go up all the way to your crease, but instead of one thick line, the liner should have a nice flared wing look to it (otherwise, it can end up looking like a big black mess). What makes this look really special is the way the wing ties together with the lower lash line. For this, we recommend either a liquid or gel liner. Create a line that extends to the outer corner of the lower lash line, and connect it to the main wing. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work out for the first try–you’ll get it with some practice!
The Rest of the Look: Keep the face as simple as possible with a nude cream lipstick and very light contouring.
The Eyes: Bored with the regular black and brown liners? We get it. Instead of trying out a colorful smokey eye look, why not give a colorful liner a try? Apply a matte peach shade all over the lids, and choose a vivid gel eyeliner. It can be either blue, green or something metallic (rose gold, bronze or silver), anything that works with your personal style and eye color. Start at the inner corners and work all the way out with a small wing. If you would like to be even more creative, use a thin, white liner on top of the colored liner to give your eyes more definition. Apply mascara both on the top and bottom lashes.
The Rest of the Look: Use a sheer gloss or lip balm on your lips, and apply a warm, rosy blush.
Greek Goddess Liner
The Eyes: Inspired by the 2016 Spring/Summer Chanel runways, you can now create this double-winged look easily! You don’t even need eye shadow–just the smallest amount of primer to keep your liner in place. Use a gel liner with a thin brush, and instead of a thicker line, try to create a thin, minimalist line with a small wing at the end. Once that’s done, all you have to do is recreate it below your crease line. Although this makeup might be a bit extravagant or time-consuming, it is the perfect style for special occasions.
The Rest of the Look: Keep it as simple as possible with a light coverage foundation, no lip color and just the tiniest amount of blush.
One Last Tip
With all of these eyeliner looks, a good base is essential. Using the right concealer or tinted moisturizer to suit your skin type is the starting point, followed by a blush or shimmer powder. Don’t forget to top it all off with the perfect lip color to suit your style, and of course a shiny white smile to finish the look.
